About Sofia

I am a bachelor of Health and Nutrition and Phytotherapist (Herbal Therapist) in training. In close collaboration we will process your challenges and with help from natures pharmacy, I will personally be there to support you the whole way.

I have always been drawn to the field of health, but the world of conventional medicine was never where my passion was strongest. I felt, and still feel, that nature and what she provides is the strongest way of approaching this subject.

To me, pregnancy in itself is almost magical. That we as humans can create life, expand as a family and experience everything that comes with that, Magic. So since the very start of my education as a health professional, I knew that this was going to be my main focus. Therefore I have spent the years of studying, building up knowledge and experience on the topic.

Bachelor of Nutrition & Health

Bachelor of Nutrition and health is a broad education, its main focus is as it sounds, to promote health in the individual and the society that they are part of, through food, everyday choices and habits…

…How an individual eats will affect their health, the health system, the welfare system and the environment. The education focuses on helping and guiding people in mastering their own health in everyday life.

Becoming a Bachelor of Health and Nutrition, is a unique ride for everyone. During the education, you have the possibility to influence the course more than once, by choosing elective courses and where you want to intern. I wanted to know as much as possible about pregnancy and fertility, and I therefore nudged my education in that direction as much as I could – I was lucky to have some excellent teachers.

Phytotherapy

On completion of Bachelor of Nutrition and Health, I came out as a fully qualified dietary counselor, with a huge bag of tools and all the up to date knowledge, but it still felt like a piece of the puzzle was missing…

What about nature? The huge amount of healing plants that she provides, and the ancient knowledge passed on from Chinese and oriental medicinal traditions. That’s when I decided to become a Phytotherapist.

Phytotherapy is plant therapy, and is also broadly known as herbalism. In Phytotherapy we understand the affects of medicinal plants on the human organism and use them to alleviate symptoms and help the body to regain its own health. As a phytotherapist I work holistically, focusing on the whole body, as well as general health and dietary habits, to help you help your body regain balance and wellbeing.

Relevant Experience

Below you will find a selection of the many courses and practical placements which I have undertaken, that tie particularly well into to the field of pregnancy & fertility…

I was lucky enough to intern at the Midwifery House in Copenhagen, where I got a a firsthand look at the process some pregnant couples go through – the first sight of the baby, birthing practices and much more. At the end of the internship another student and I developed and carried out a lecture on food, health and nutrition during pregnancy.

Later on in my studies I interned at a research project in a Danish hospital, focusing on diet and weight of pregnant overweight women. The project was looking into the positive effect of a healthy diet during pregnancy for mother and later on child. On this project I was a part of the counseling sessions, and I handled and processed data from women and children.

This was a very important one for me, as I got to experience what traditional fertility treatment is, and the immense effect it has on everyone involved. It instilled in me an even greater respect for everyone involved. As a part of this internship I researched and developed informational products regarding food and exercise for women with PCOS, and how this can have a positive effect on their fertility status.

One of my first solo projects on fertility was this one. It focussed on how food, and food chemicals can influence hormones and therefore fertility in men and women. I dived into reproductive biology and the hormonal reactions that happen in the body when we eat different types of food. I also looked at research regarding pesticides and their possible effect on this system.

As a part of my education to become a phythotherepist i did a course on the female hormonal system. This focused on treatment of problems women may encounter throughout life, a big part of this was naturally fertility and PCOS.

Treatment of the problems that men may encounter throughout life, particularly; fertility, imobile sperm and low sperm count.
